Our Heritage
Founded in 1924, Camp Weed has served as the Diocese of Florida’s resident camp for more than 92 years. In that time, we’ve moved from St. Augustine Beach to Panama City, finally settling in 1978 in Live Oak, Florida. During that time, we’ve served thousands of campers, and we love seeing generations of families - grandparents, parents, and children - come through our gates.
Camp Weed offers a unique summer experience that allows campers to experience God’s great outdoors, and through them, experience God. Our Episcopal foundation seeps through our programming, through our devotions and dean’s program, but we remain open-minded, accepting, and excited to serve a variety of youth.
Our camp serves boys and girls from second grade to high school seniors. We proudly tailor our programming for each age group and ensure that our campers experience age-appropriate activities and treatment.
The Camp Weed Difference
Our convenient location central to the Diocese of Florida allows us to serve youth from many areas. We’re located just an hour from Tallahassee, Gainesville, and Jacksonville, and we’re a quick drive from the west panhandle, south Georgia, and south Alabama.
Since our founding, we have remained committed to excellent facilities, and we are constantly growing. We currently have nine air-conditioned cabins, a large indoor pavilion, an updated dining hall, and more.
While we’re extremely proud of our location and facilities, we believe our incredible staff are our biggest asset. Our counselors, most of whom were Camp Weed campers themselves, make our camp experience special, and with many interested in pursuing a vocation in ministry, they’re role models we’re proud of.
It’s difficult to put the Camp Weed difference into words, so we suggest reaching out to our camp director or attending an event at Camp Weed.
Philosophy and Commitment
In our camping experience, we’ve learned that choosing camp is a great act of trust and faith from parents. Our directors take that trust and faith extremely seriously.
While camp is fun for kids, we’re committed to making it more than just a fun week. We, like many experts, view camp as an opportunity for children to learn, grow, and build relationships, and we work that into every area of our programming. Whether it’s trying something new, like archery or high ropes, or making decisions on their own, possibly for the first time, our caring staff provides support and encourages growth.
Even when the camp season ends, we remain invested in the lives of our campers and staff, and we love to share in their successes. If your camper (or counselor!) does something great (even if it’s finally eating their brussel sprouts), we’d love for you to reach out, let us know, and invite us to celebrate with you. If you’re willing, we’d even love to share their success on our Facebook page!
