Kym Hughes

New Executive Director

Having more than 15 years experience in the hospitality industry, Hughes started her Convention and Visitors Bureau career in Valdosta, Georgia in convention and group sales. Her focus was the Valdosta-Lowndes County Conference Center. She then moved to Athens, Georgia, home of the Georgia Bulldogs, where she took pride in selling and promoting the Classic Center as the Convention and Sales Manager for the Athens CVB. Hughes took her first Executive Director position in Statesboro and was delighted to be offered the grand opportunity to build the Sandy Springs CVB, known as Sandy Springs Hospitality and Tourism. From research and development of the product to branding and marketing strategies, Hughes did a great job building a highly successful CVB and team.

Archeological Discovery at Camp Weed

Hernando De Soto and the Indians of Camp Weed

The announcement of an archeological discover at Camp Weed in 2008 startled the diocese. Before St. Augustine was founded in 1565 (the oldest city), there were Europeans here on the Camp Weed property.
