New Parents

Join Our Family!

We’re extremely thankful that you’re considering Camp Weed for your child! We know that parents place an incredibly large amount of trust and faith in staff when sending their child to camp, and we want you to rest assured that we appreciate it and we’re dedicated to earning and keeping it.

Benefits of Camp

If you’re considering camp for the first time, you’re well on the way to making a great decision. Many experts have done research on and written about the benefits of summer camp, and we place a lot of focus on ensuring those benefits are reaped at our camp. To name a few of the benefits:

  • Camp encourages self-esteem and builds self-confidence by letting them participate in a variety of activities.

  • Camp helps children make decisions independently of their parents by allowing them to choose what they eat, what activities they explore, and who they’ll be friends with.

  • Campers discover and explore their talents, values, and interests at camp through trying new things and interacting with new people.

  • At camp, children learn to problem solve through activities and group dynamics.

  • Camp gets kids active by constantly providing games and activities.

  • Camp helps conquer fears and increases resiliency by allowing campers to try new things.

  • Children learn to “unplug” from technology at camp.

  • Children’s abilities are nourished at camp by counselors, staff, and friends who constantly cheer them on.

  • Camp provides valuable free play by working free time into the schedule.

  • In cabins, campers learn to work in groups.

And trust us, there are plenty more! If you’d like to read more about how camp benefits children, we suggest searching “benefits of summer camp,” or checking out Homesick and Happy or Last Child In The Woods.

Our Commitment

Not only are we committed to helping your children experience the benefits listed above, but we’re also committed to keeping them safe and making them feel loved and appreciated. We handpick our staff to be great leaders and role models. Additionally, our staff members undergo a week-long staff training, where they are trained in First Aid, CPR, and AED, as well as homesickness, talking to children, dealing with issues, and facilitating groups.

Next Steps

As a new parent, we’re sure you have questions about camp, so we suggest exploring our site. In particular, you might want to learn more about our staff, read our parent handbook, or check out our FAQs.

If you have a question we haven’t answered or if you’d like to connect with a human, we’d love to hear from you. You can contact Allison Vining, our camp director, at allison@campweed.org or 386-364-5250.
